Illinois Equine Humane Center is Re-Verified by Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries

2020 (Maple Park, IL) – The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries, awarded again Verified status to Illinois Equine Humane Center as of June 2020 through June 2023.
Verification means that Illinois Equine Humane Center meets the criteria of a true equine sanctuary/rescue and is providing humane and responsible care of the animals. To be awarded Verified status, an organization must meet GFAS’s rigorous and peer-reviewed animal care standards which are confirmed by a site visit and they must also adhere to a demanding set of ethical and operational principles.
The Illinois Equine Humane Center (ILEHC) is honored to have been awarded this important acknowledgement.

PENNIES FOR PONIES!

Appropriately dubbed  "Pennies for Ponies" the Illinois Equine Humane Center, NFP (ILEHC), located in Maple Park, Illinois is conducting a fundraising event, the goal of which is to raise one million pennies ($10,000.00).  "The ILEHC hopes that through the Pennies for Ponies campaign, we will raise much needed funds to provide feed, hay, and care for the horses within our program that are currently being rehabilitated and readied for adoption," said ILEHC president, Gail Vacca.    The ILEHC serves as a safety net for horses which may have been previously neglected, abused, or that are otherwise no longer wanted by their owners.  Each fall beginning with 2011, the ILEHC has accepted severely neglected and/or abused horses or horses destined for slaughter.  "Meeting the needs of neglected horses which require lengthy rehabilitation, in addition to providing for the other horses within our care, has proved to be a challenge and has truly stretched our resources to their limits," continued Vacca.  The ILEHC will has placed donation containers throughout Kane County and surrounding communities, and will have a full list of locations available on its web site. Folks interested in dropping off pennies and other donations may do so at the ILEHC stables located at 45W050 Beith Road in Maple Park. Donations may also be made online via our website - www.ilehc.org   The Pennies for Ponies campaign has kicked off and continues today. For further information plese call 815-761-4937.

ASPCA Grant Helps Neglected Horses Rescued by the ILEHC!

The ILEHC is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the ASPCA to help it care for several neglected Thoroughbreds rescued in early August.   "The ILEHC is deeply grateful to the ASPCA for its longstanding generous support of our work and in particular, for their contribution toward the care of these Thoroughbreds for which a long period of rehabilitation lies ahead," said ILEHC President, Gail Vacca.   "Several of the horses are older and are extremely malnourished which will require many months of rehabilitation and retraining before they will be ready for adoption. Without the support of the public and the ASPCA, the ILEHC would likely not have been able to help these horses. Thankfully, the ASPCA grant will help us get these horses on the road to recovery," continued Vacca.   For more information on the horses please visit our adoption page.  For more information on the ASPCA please visit www.aspca.org

After the Finish Line (ATFL) Donation

ATFL would like to thank our Board of Directors, volunteers, donors (monetary, in-kind and services), charity partners and grantors for helping us exceed our funding goals in 2011. ATFL is sending surprise Holiday donations to 24 rescue organizations totaling $13,500 to show our appreciation for their commitment to the Thoroughbred ex-racehorses in their care. This demanding work does not go unnoticed and ATFL applauds their dedication to our equine friends. The Illinois Equine Humane Center wishes to thank ATFL for their generosity and an acknowledgement to our great work.
