Regent's Hope (Reggie) - Rest in Peace2000-2023
We are very sad to share the news our sweet dude, Reggie, gained his angel wings Saturday night after a sudden colic. He fought his hardest to stay with us, but alas, he is now pain free, no doubt having fun and frolics with his old buddies. Reggie had many talents on and off the racetrack; he earned over $136k on the track as a nippy little racehorse and off the track his popularity among the other geldings was unmatched, he was the Dude, the guy everyone loves, the one you call to share your troubles and have a fun evening. His popularity and chill nature meant he became our resident stallion tamer, he never failed! He LOVED a muddy puddle, and to have his head rubbed (you’d hear “reggie.. reggie…reeegggiiiee” from his stall as he’d capture a volunteer for a head rub). Even though his arthritis gave him stiff days, his positive attitude never failed. By far his biggest talent was the ability to make us laugh and smile, every single day. Oh Reg, what will we do without your fun soul. You’re so missed and left this world oh so loved. Fly high Reggie-roo Thank you to all the volunteers who have cared for him over the years, scraping off mounds of mud, summer baths and giving him head rubs and all the treats. Thank you to all our supporters and partners for making it possible to give Reggie many amazing years of life at ILEHC. A life very well lived |
Zingy was a 1995, dark bay, 16 hand, Thoroughbred mare. Zingy retired from racing in 2001 having earned over $23k in 38 starts. Zingy came to the ILEHC as part of a herd of horses relinquished by their owner who was no longer able to adequately care or feed horses. Zingy was extremely malnourished and underweight at that time, however, in just a few short months, she has been completely restored to excellent weight and health. Zingy lived a fulfilling 13 years at ILEHC, enjoying the good life, loved by many. Run free with your girlfriends, Zinga-ding.

Lexi was a 1998, chestnut, 16.2 hand, Thoroughbred mare. Lexi retired from racing with nearly $14k in earnings in only 9 starts. Lexi came to the ILEHC as part of a herd of horses relinquished by their owner who was no longer able to adequately care or feed horses. Lexi was extremely malnourished and underweight at that time, however, in just a few short months, she has been completely restored to excellent weight and health. Lexi was a sweet, calm and intelligent mare that would make a wonderful companion horse.

Stein was a gorgeous 2012, 16 hand, dark bay (nearly black!) Thoroughbred, gelding. Mr. Stein is by Einstein (BRZ) winner of more than $2 million and out of the Dynaformer mare, Heartache Dyna. This impeccably bred gelding did well on the racetrack and last raced September 1, 2018 at Arlington Park retiring with over $48k in earnings from 25 starts. Stein was rescued by the ILEHC in early 2019 from a kill pen in Stroud, Oklahoma. Stein was one of the unfortunate victims of his owner's mass disposal of racing and breeding stock. Unfortunately, only a few of more than 40 suspected horses that were sold to slaughter by this owner were able to be recovered from slaughter auctions or feedlots. Thankfully, the ILEHC was able to step up to rescue this beautiful, sweet, sound, and kind gelding. ILEHC lost Stein to a pasture accident in mid-February 2020, way too soon.
