                        Colonel Klink  (Colonel)

Colonel, a five-year-old thoroughbred gelding, was relinquished by his owner in 2010 following an injury he sustained while racing.  Over 17.2 hands, this handsome boy won over $25K in 10 starts during his racing career.  He is currently undergoing a period of rest and rehabilitation for his injury and is not currently available for adoption.  However, the ILEHC would gladly entertain the idea of adopting Colonel to a special someone who is specifically qualified to provide him with the rehabilitative care that he currently needs.  Prognosis is guarded for his returning to riding soundness but we are hopeful that one day he will be suitable for light pleasure/trail riding.

                        Silver Option    (Lulu)

Lulu is a 14-year-old, 16 hand, dark bay Thoroughbred mare with an interesting story.  The ILEHC rescued Lulu on June 6, 2009 from a kill pen at the Shipshewana Livestock auction in Shipshewana, IN.  Lame and in obvious distress, Lulu had already been purchased by well known kill buyer Jaron Gold by the time the ILEHC arrived at the auction.  Nonetheless, the ILEHC was able to broker a deal with Gold to purchase this mare to spare her what would have been tremendous suffering during the long journey to a Canadian slaughter plant.  Lulu is safe now and, although her lameness issues persist, her mobility has improved.  She exhibits classic signs of laminitis, however the ILEHC has had two different vets evaluate and radiograph Lulu's hooves and both have concluded that there are no structural abnormalities within her feet that would explain her lameness.  Shortly after arriving at the ILEHC it was also discovered that Lulu was carrying a foal and, on April 15 2010, she delivered a very handsome dark bay colt.  The ILEHC has since learned that Lulu is actually a registered daughter of Silver Hawk and her little colt was sired by champion Magna Graduate who stands at Darby Dan farm in Kentucky.  Having had a very difficult life and being unsound for riding, Lulu is suitable as a companion horse only.  Or if you would like to sponsor Lulu, please let us know!
