Making the holidays brighter for horses
With the help of the ILEHC, two very wonderful horses have found new homes just in time for Christmas!
Both Snowball and Scooby have been adopted by wonderful new families
Snowball
Snowball's owners first contacted us several months ago seeking our assistance in re-homing their beloved 20-year-old Quarter Horse mare. They explained to me that circumstances made it necessary for them to move into town and they would soon no longer be in a position to continue to care for Snowball. Wanting to ensure that their beloved Snowball would find a suitable and loving home, they did the best thing possible for their mare by seeking our help to place her.
After a few months of strong networking and lots and lots of screening of interested adopters, Snowball has finally found the perfect home. Snowball is going to be (shhhhhh... this is still a secret) a surprise Christmas gift for a very deserving and horse crazy 13 year old girl. Talk about a match made in heaven. Is it not every young girl's Christmas wish to have a beautiful horse to call their very own? I can't wait until the "cat is outta the bag" so that I can share photos of this wonderful Christmas surprise...please stay tuned.
Unsolved Mystery
Scooby (aka Unsolved Mystery) has also found a new and loving home. Scooby's owner also found herself in a position that rendered her unable to continue to provide for her horse's needs. Wanting to ensure that Scooby would be safe and that he'd find a loving home, both his owner and the barn owner where Scooby is boarded contacted the ILEHC to seek our assistance in re-homing this very sweet and deserving horse. The ILEHC is happy to report that Scooby will be going to his new home on the 19th. He is going to a therapy barn in southern IL to be a companion horse and to be used for the kids to fuss over and play with. Another VERY happy ending for both horse and owner.
The ILEHC is deeply grateful to the owners of both Snowball and Scooby for setting a fine example for other horses owners to follow. The sad fact is that nowadays, many horse owners simply dump their horses at low-end auctions or ship them off to slaughter when they are no longer able or willing to care for them. We applaud these horse owners for doing right by their horses and are glad that the ILEHC was able to help them along the way!
Snowball and Scooby are but two of the many happy endings the ILEHC helped to facilitate this past year. We are currently working to re-home several other horses, including many that were rescued and remain in the physical care of the ILEHC.
Please help us to continue to provide these much needed services to horses and horse owners who have fallen upon hard times. Without your support, none of this can happen.
Times are tough for everyone right now, the ILEHC included. We are in critical need of funds to meet our monthly feed and horse-care expenses, so please help remember us this Holiday Season. Even if its only to drop a card with a $1 bill inside...every little bit counts and is very much needed and is greatly appreciated.
